“Currents” - Upper Mississippi River
Sabbatical project – 2013-2014
In this year I returned to my boyhood home after an absence of more than 40 years. My wife and I lived in a downtown Minneapolis condo not far from the river and Saint Anthony Falls. It seems there were few days when we are not crossing one of the bridges to see what the river was doing that day. In addition to these walking journeys I was investigating antique maps, NASA photos, and any other images that showed me aspects of the river I had been ignoring. This series of 21 wall sculptures allowed me to explore the patterns, colors, and surface textures that have been constant features in my work for the last 50+ years.
